About the Course

The Wood Construction Technology program at Amankwakrom Fisheries and Agricultural Technology Institute (AFATI) provides comprehensive training in joinery, furniture making, cabinetry, and wood finishing. Learners gain the craftsmanship and technical knowledge to design, construct, and finish high quality wood products for domestic, commercial, and industrial use.

Students receive practical instruction in workshop environments, focusing on precision, creativity, and safety while mastering modern and traditional woodworking techniques.

Course Objectives

  • Design, construct, and assemble wooden structures and furniture
  • Use hand and power tools safely and efficiently
  • Apply techniques in wood finishing, polishing, and surface treatment
  • Read and interpret technical drawings for wood construction projects
  • Apply principles of measurement, costing, and workshop management

Course Duration

  • Total Duration: 2 years
  • Format: Full time
  • Structure: Year 1 Fundamentals of joinery, materials, and tool handling. Year 2 Advanced furniture design, finishing, and project work

Entry Requirements

  • Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) or higher
  • Minimum age 16 years
  • Medically fit for technical and workshop training
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Interest in woodworking or construction

Certification

Upon successful completion of all modules and assessments, participants receive the National Proficiency I and II Certificate in Wood Construction Technology, accredited by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) under the Ghana TVET Service (GTVET).
