The Welding and Fabrication Technology program at Amankwakrom Fisheries and Agricultural Technology Institute (AFATI) trains students in metal cutting, joining, and fabrication using modern tools and equipment. The curriculum blends theory with extensive practical training to build technical competence for construction, manufacturing, and shipbuilding work.
Learners gain hands-on experience in multiple welding processes and fabrication techniques while mastering workshop safety, material handling, and blueprint interpretation to meet industry standards.
Course Objectives
- Perform different types of welding including arc, gas, and MIG/TIG processes
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and fabrication blueprints
- Cut, shape, and assemble metal structures accurately
- Apply safety procedures and quality standards in welding operations
- Repair and maintain metal structures and equipment used in industry
Course Duration
- Total Duration: 2 years
- Format: Full time
- Structure: Year 1 Basic welding processes, safety, and metal preparation. Year 2 Advanced fabrication techniques and project work
Entry Requirements
- Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) or higher
- Minimum age 16 years
- Medically fit for workshop and fieldwork activities
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Interest in technical or mechanical fields

Certification
Upon successful completion of all modules and assessments, participants receive the National Proficiency I and II Certificate in Welding and Fabrication Technology, accredited by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) under the Ghana TVET Service (GTVET).
