About the Course

The Fashion Design Technology program at Amankwakrom Fisheries and Agricultural Technology Institute (AFATI) introduces learners to garment construction, textile design, pattern drafting, and fashion illustration. It equips students with creative and technical skills to produce stylish, market-ready clothing for local and international markets.

Through a blend of classroom instruction and practical studio work, learners gain hands-on experience in fabric selection, sewing, and design presentation while developing their own creative identities as emerging fashion professionals.

Course Objectives

  • Create garments from concept to finished product using professional techniques
  • Draft and adapt patterns for various clothing styles and body types
  • Design and illustrate fashion concepts using traditional and digital methods
  • Apply textile knowledge in garment production and finishing

Course Duration

  • Total Duration: 2 years
  • Format: Full-time
  • Structure: Year 1 Basic design principles, garment construction, and pattern drafting. Year 2 Advanced tailoring, fashion illustration, and creative projects

Entry Requirements

  • Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) or higher
  • Minimum age 16 years
  • Interest in fashion, art, or design
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Medically fit for technical training

Certification

Upon successful completion of all modules and assessments, participants receive the National Proficiency I & II Certificate in Fashion Design Technology, accredited by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) under the Ghana TVET Service (GTVET).
