About the Course

The Agricultural Mechanization Technology program at Amankwakrom Fisheries and Agricultural Technology Institute (AFATI) trains learners in the operation, repair, and maintenance of agricultural machinery and equipment. The program emphasizes practical experience with tractors, harvesters, planters, and irrigation systems used in modern farming.

Students develop technical skills and problem solving abilities that improve agricultural productivity through mechanized systems and sustainable technologies.

Course Objectives

  • Operate and maintain various types of farm machinery and equipment
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults in tractors and implements
  • Understand the principles of power transmission and hydraulic systems
  • Install and manage irrigation and water pumping systems
  • Apply safety standards and maintenance schedules in mechanized farming

Course Duration

  • Total Duration: 2 years
  • Format: Full time
  • Structure: Year 1 Fundamentals of agricultural machinery and workshop practice. Year 2 Advanced diagnostics, field operations, and project work

Entry Requirements

  • Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) or higher
  • Minimum age 16 years
  • Medically fit for technical and fieldwork
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Interest in agriculture or mechanical systems

Certification

On successful completion of all modules and assessments, participants are awarded the National Proficiency I and II Certificate in Agricultural Mechanization Technology, accredited by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) under the Ghana TVET Service (GTVET).
